Care, Protection, and Hope

Last fall, we did a powerful matching drive to build a well for our Friend Mangatim and her classmates. Thanks to our amazing, generous donors, Mangatim and her friends now have fresh water every day while they learn!

But our donors were so generous, we were able to do even more. Because of their generosity, we were able to provide clean water for hundreds more children in three states.

One of these projects was a reverse-osmosis filtration system (RO Water, for short) for a school in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. This junior high school serves 200 students in kindergarten through 10th grade, and has been instrumental in providing opportunities for growth and advancement for people in this tribal group

When we learned about this need, students were using a hand pump well adjacent to the campus, which sometimes became contaminated by fertilizer and fecal runoff from the nearby fields. Often, children were sick because they drank the dirty water. It was clear that a retrofitted well with a reliable, modern filtration system was needed to truly care for the students.

Today, RO water flows freely throughout the day, helping the young people stay healthy by significantly reducing the risk of waterborne diseases like diarrhea, typhoid, and other infections. The children are more energetic and able to stay focused during school hours. Drinking water is available at all times, encouraging students to stay hydrated.

Projects like this are a shining example of how even the simplest gifts can create a healthier and more supportive learning environment, giving these kids what they need to build a better future!
